WEGE zum WOHNEN is an organisation created by parents, relatives and friends of young people and adults with cognitive, mental health and/or physical problems. The driving force of this activity was the urgent desire of the parents to find accommodation for their disabled children, now grown into adulthood.
By virtue of the increasingly urgent need for care centres, Rubner Objektbau was tasked with constructing a residence and a day-care centre, together with ancillary buildings and outdoor facilities at the site in Pernitz in Lower Austria.
The buildings, constructed with timber post and beam elements and timber massive construction methods, together with the contemporary architecture and the corresponding overall design of the facades with their variety of structures made from vertical larch boarding and plastered surfaces, have created a comfortable living space. This structure has nothing in common with previous, often mediocre-looking care facilities.
All the timber surfaces on walls and roofs – with the exception of the sanitary facilities - are visible and because timber is a natural material the building guarantees the clients an agreeable care environment which is extremely environmentally-friendly. This project benefitted from the synergy of the companies within the Rubner Group. The roof and wall elements were produced by Rubner Holzbau and the windows and interior doors by Rubner Türen. Rubner Objektbau was responsible for the complete process right up to turnkey hand-over and also supplied all the furniture.
