wooden architecture, under the guidance of its General Contractor, Rubner Objektbau
, opened the doors of the Bio-Mediterranean Cluster in just two months. So, within the Cluster spaces, Malta and Montenegro were the first countries to launch outfitting works in their pavilions, thanks to the unique, winning Rubner formula. Rubner will be at EXPO MILANO 2015 with two other important projects: the “Children Park-Rocchetti” and the three pavilions in the space dedicated to “Slow Food”.
Within wood construction, a sector that is growing significantly and which is becoming an increasingly key player in the building world, the Rubner Group, pioneer and European leader in residential and public building design and construction, is taking its expertise to EXPO MILANO 2015 with three valuable projects.
The first important project concerns the four Cluster dedicated to Bio-Mediterranean, Islands, Arid Zones and Grains and Tubers, which are key features of EXPO MILANO 2015.
These are exhibition spaces, for a total of 43 buildings, with a common theme shared through a single architectural project.
The Rubner Group, which placed Rubner Objektbau on the front line, is the wood General Contractor par excellence in Europe and sole point of reference for managing the projects created for EXPO MILANO 2015. It ensured particularly quick start-up times.
In fact, the wooden structures in the Clusters were assembled in just 2 months, guaranteeing the official handover of the Bio-Mediterranean Cluster to the Montenegrin (Pavilion P01) and Maltese (Pavilion P06) delegations respectively, with a turnkey formula on 5 February 2015.
The exceptionally quick execution that Rubner guaranteed allowed these countries to be the first in the Cluster spaces to begin outfitting their pavilions.
This is an important achievement that proves and confirms Rubner's commitment to constantly maintaining high standards of reliability and quality, two concepts that are in perfect harmony with the company's style.
Every space is customised and characterised by distinctive sections typical of the areas of the world that they represent, and by a multi-use common area.
The Bio-Mediterranean Cluster includes the countries that border the Mediterranean: Albania, Algeria, Egypt, Greece, Lebanon, Libya, Serbia, Malta, Montenegro, Tunisia and San Marino.
The Food and Nutrition Cluster in the Arid Zones houses those countries that face problems of desertification and an arid climate. Among the countries in this area are Eritrea, the Palestinian territories, Mauritania and Senegal.
The Cluster dedicated to "Islands, Sea and Food" will group together all the smaller countries that are islands or archipelagos, similar in their ecosystems, tied to the ocean, and their diet, based on the sustainable use of marine resources. These include Cape Verde, the Maldives, the Comoros islands and the Caribbean countries.
Lastly, the "Grains and Tubers" Cluster will represent a valley dedicated to a tour of the grains and tubers of the world. Some of the countries that will tell of their agricultural economy are: Bolivia, Haiti, Mozambique, Togo, Congo and Zimbabwe.
The second project will involve Rubner Objektbau in building the “Children Park”.
The contract was signed on 25 February 2015 and specifically calls for 8 “Spools” to be supplied. These are characteristic wooden elements, 12 metres in diameter and 7.50 metres tall.
These will outfit a natural pollution space that, from an architectural point of view, will resemble a garden with trees and large branches.
This special area is dedicated to children and, thanks to the intrinsic values of wood, is able to convey and recall the values of sustainability: from the tree to wood, symbols of growth and a future in harmony with nature.
The third project, bearing the signature of the famous Herzog & de Meuron architectural firm, concerns parts supplied by Rubner for three pavilions in the space dedicated to “Slow Food”.
Rubner Objektbau was awarded the contract on 5 February 2015.
The pavilion is located in a strategic position, at the end of the Decumanus and in the shadows of the Mediterranean hills, and it is made up of three different factories that form a large, open triangle. The buildings will be made entirely of wood and will be reminiscent of chalets and farmsteads of old. In the three buildings, visitors will be able to enjoy “Slow food”.
Thanks to the extraordinary properties of wood, a flexible and versatile material for any type of construction, the three projects that Rubner is handling – for a total value of 27 million euro, inclusive the services of management and maintenance of works CL1 and Rocchetti-CHP acquired 04/30/2015 – are each able to interpret and enhance their identity and philosophy, through personalisation of the spaces.
The Rubner Group is able to ensure efficient and quick delivery times with its vertical production line, a unique formula and a distinguishing strength on a European level. This rational project management, unique in the wood-construction sector, is also able to ensure optimisation of costs and construction time.
The company's organisation guarantees a competitive advantage for customers thanks to its turnkey formula that starts from the design and consulting phase, going all the way through to building delivery (including: structures, utilities, finishing, etc.).
In developing the projects for EXPO MILANO 2015, the skills of Rubner Objektbau were positioned alongside those of Rubner Holzbau, another feather in the Group's cap specialising in large wooden works.
On a European level, Rubner Holzbau
is a strong point of reference in the large structure construction field, ensuring comprehensive management of the project for the customer – from laminated timber beams to the complete solution – and always in extremely quick and efficient completion times, thanks to the high level of prefabrication. The precise coordination and perfect fusion of the skills these two companies in the Group allow impeccable execution of every task.
“We are very proud to be able to work for EXPO MILANO 2015”, stated Peter Rubner, Chairman of the Rubner Group. “We see this opportunity as a great new challenge that will take us into new and interesting markets as yet not fully explored, such as temporary events, where the quality guaranteed by prefabricated wood products is undoubtedly the perfect solution”.
“The growing interest in using natural materials in construction, first and foremost wood, shows that a more responsible culture is slowly spreading, one that is attentive to creating comfortable homes, but also to protecting the environment”, concluded Peter Rubner.
